The continuing upgrade of the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre is progressing well despite some wet weather delays. The construction program for the indoor stadium which includes two new basketball courts, upgrades to the show court to competition level, and additional seating capacity for 900, is scheduled for completion in early 2024.

Southern Cross Developers have completed all concrete pours for the new grandstand, steel structures for the show court and courts 4 & 5, and external cladding of the show court. The internal wall and roof cladding and boxing for the stadium seats has commenced.

Shortly the roofing will begin along with preparation of the concrete floor for the timber sports floor. Internal plastering to the storeroom will be completed then painted, and the floors will be prepped for new floorcoverings. The timber flooring and battens for all three courts is now in dry storage in Wangaratta.

While it can be challenging to keep the facilities open for the public and staff during builds of this scale, Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre will endeavour to continue to provide access where possible and inform stakeholders of any necessary closures.

“With the construction program for our indoor stadium well underway, our vision is taking shape. Its completion in early 2024, will ensure a brighter, better space for all sports enthusiasts." Said Sonya Dalgliesh, Manager Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre.
