Kids and Teens Lessons

Learners will build confidence and become safe and independent swimmers in our program.
 
Children develop the foundations of swimming through water familiarisation, stroke development and water safety skills, preparing them for a lifetime of fun in the water.

Your Learn to Swim Membership

✔ 1 x 30min Learn to Swim lesson per week (during the Victorian School Terms)     

✔ Access to all pools to swim 7 days a week at WSAC all year round (including the school holidays)

$35.80 per fortnight

Concession Learn to Swim membership of $25.00 per fortnight is available with a valid concession card.


Beginner classes

Classes are held in the program pool

Level 1

Children in level 1 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Enter and exit the water
  • Float on front and back using help
  • Move 3 metres continuously through the water
  • Identify people who can help in an emergency

Level 2

Children in level 2 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Slide in entry and exit
  • float on front and back and recover
  • Tread water using help
  • 5 metres basic freestyle
  • Be pulled to safety

Level 3

Children in level 3 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Fall in entry and recover
  • Float on back and tread water for 30 seconds
  • 10 metres freestyle with breathing
  • 5 metres backstroke 
  • Be rescued

Intermediate 

Classes are held in the 25-metre pool

Level 4

Children in level 4 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Step in entry
  • 15 metres freestyle & backstroke
  • 10 metres survival backstroke
  • Surface dive and recover an object
  • Talk rescue

Level 5

Children in level 5 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Head-first and feet first sculling
  • 25 metres freestyle & backstroke
  • 15 metres survival backstroke & breaststroke
  • Reach rescue
  • Survival sequence - with help

Level 6

Children in level 6 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Stride in entry
  • Float, scull or tread water for 1 minute
  • 50 metres freestyle & backstroke
  • 25 metres survival backstroke & breaststroke 

Level 7

Children in level 7 work towards these skills before progressing to the next level:

  • Dive in entry
  • Float, scull or tread water for 2 minutes
  • 75 metres freestyle & backstroke
  • 50 metres survival backstroke & breaststroke
  • Throw rescue 
  • Survival sequence - student wearing light clothing 

Squad swimming

Junior Squad - Friday - 5:45pm - 6:15pm

Senior Squad - Friday - 5:00pm - 5:45pm

Our partnership with Wangaratta Amateurs Swim Club provides a great pathway into competitive swimming. Our squad swimming program is a welcoming and fun program dedicated to helping each learner reach their full potential.

Squad swimming focus on improving cardiovascular endurance, speed and introducing swimmers to squad styled sessions without the pressure of competitions.
