Rural City of Wangaratta is excited that Swimming Victoria has announced the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association as hosts of the 2023 Victorian Country Long Course Swimming Championships in Wangaratta.

“This will be the first time that the Championships will be held at the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre, and it is a great opportunity to showcase our new heated outdoor 50m pool,” Rural City of Wangaratta Sports, Aquatic and Events Precinct Manager, Penny Hargrave said.

“The Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre has recently undergone a major upgrade, which includes new changeroom facilities, upgraded lighting and of course the new 50m outdoor pool, making the Wangaratta facility the ideal location to host the Championships,” she said.

The 21-23 January event will begin a busy year for WSAC and the Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association who are also hosting the 2023 Victorian Country Short Course Swimming Championships in the 25m pool at the same venue in August.

Ovens and Murray District Swimming Association President, Brendon Shiels said he was thrilled to see the Championships come to Wangaratta.

“We are incredibly excited to have been awarded the Victorian Country Long Course Swimming Championships in Wangaratta for 2023 and look forward to showcasing all our Ovens and Murray District has to offer,” Mr Shiels said.

“This will be the first state level meet at the new heated 50m Olympic outdoor pool, with the touch pad timing system.  This is also a chance to see how the combined facility works with some lanes in the 25m Indoor pool that will be hosting the 2023 Short Course Swimming Championships available for swimmer warmup and cool down,” he said.
